Jayati Bose - INDIA

Jayati Bose (b. 1980, Asansol, West Bengal) is a self-taught artist and sculptor whose evocative oeuvre explores the intersection of femininity, nostalgia, and the essence of Bengali culture.

Embarking on her artistic journey in 2021, Bose has swiftly established herself as a significant figure in the realm of contemporary art, celebrated for her mastery in both watercolor artwork and terracotta sculptures. Her distinctive aesthetic is defined by muted tones, fluid forms, and an unerring ability to capture the unspoken narratives of women. Rooted in the timelessness of tradition and the poignancy of personal reflection, Bose's works span multiple celebrated series.

Her "Women at Leisure" watercolors present intimate vignettes of feminine repose, reveling in the understated beauty of everyday moments. Her "Goddess Series," created exclusively for Paro by Good Earth, reinterprets divine femininity through ethereal depictions of goddesses that are both contemporary and eternal.

In her ‘Bageecha Series’, Bose celebrates the ephemeral beauty of nature, particularly through her signature renditions of hibiscus flowers—delicate yet striking symbols of life’s transience and resilience.

Parallel to her achievements in watercolor, Bose’s "Mrinmoyee Series" of terracotta sculptures underscores her profound engagement with materiality and narrative. Through meticulously sculpted forms, she immortalizes the resilience and enduring spirit of women from diverse walks of life. The raw earthiness of terracotta serves as a poignant metaphor for the connection between feminine strength and nature, with each sculpture telling a story through its evocative expressions and gestures.

Bose's artistic vocabulary is deeply informed by her Bengali heritage, with its rich artistic and literary legacy. Her works invite viewers into a world imbued with serendipity, grace, and a yearning for simplicity in an era of complexity. Whether through the translucency of watercolors or the tactile solidity of terracotta, she crafts a dialogue between the personal and the universal, capturing the essence of leisure, resilience, and the ephemeral beauty of life.
