TRAMA 2022
During the second year of XTANT in Mallorca, TRAMA 2022 saw a series of large changes that would shape the future of the event. Taking place in a wonderful space below the cathedral Santa Maria, graciously provided by the government of Mallorca for the event, the year saw us meeting many new faces that are today good friends, as well as making the last memories we were able to share with some others.
TRAMA is a Spanish word meaning both “weft” and “narrative” and, as part of that theme, the event sought to explore the stories we tell. Both of ourselves and our industry.
In amplifying voices too few in number or too remote, the project hoped to break the illusion of what makes up the modern Textile industry’s “consensus”.
Whether that be in the misuse of certain culturally significant regional fibers by luxury brands. Or in the many eye-rolling stories that try to obfuscate dangerous greenwashing .
LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Besides the unique venue of the year’s event, TRAMA was also the first edition of XTANT´s Leadership program. A week full of discussions, craft learning, and collective projects, set in the beautiful estate Raixa, far away from the bustle of the city, that was provided to us by the government of Mallorca for the event’s duration.
The concept of the program had existed since the beginning of XTANT itself, though the limitations imposed by the pandemic and more general issues with scale delayed it for years. The aim to teach and provide an enriching, unorthodox experience. But also to bring an even closer sense of community to the whole project. Connecting the artists and creatives that joined us, and ultimately hoping to gather the firewood of change — so to speak.
Over the Years, the location, guest lecturers, and projects included have always differed in some way or another. But the program’s first iteration has been the guiding scheme behind it all, and we could not be more thankful to those who trusted in the idea, and were there to see it through.
