Bhutan Textiles, is a guild of companies, designers and NGOs representing more than 200 weavers and producers along the textile value chain within its country.
Textiles in Bhutan are an important pillar of its culture, weaving being passed on from one generation to another. The Textile industry holds a very high bar for weaving expertise, as it traditionally weaves either for the Royal Family or for personal use within Bhutanese religious festivals and events, each requiring their specific outfit.
The uniqueness and richness of the Bhutanese culture and lifestyle is made accessible through this collective collection, Each piece conveying their values, their connection with their environment, as well as their attachment to their cultural and spiritual heritage.
This initiative was developed within the framework of the EU-Bhutan Trade Support Project in partnership with the Royal Government of Bhutan, more specifically with the Agency for Promotion of Indigenous Crafts (APIC) and with the technical assistance of the United Nations’ (UN) agency, the International Trade Centre (ITC) as well as funding support on the part of the European Union.
