Andrea Velasco is a Mexican fashion designer currently focused on collaboration with artisans for the production of innovative textiles and unique pieces. Behind their every collection there is a specialised process where the creative team experiences a journey of experimentation and self-expression in an effort to collectively create a new approach towards artisan techniques.
Creators collaborating for the project hail from 3 different communities Huixtán in the chiapas highlands, Santiago El Pinar and San Juan Cancuc. Sourcing materials from nearby producers, both industrialised and artisanal. The techniques used include: backstrap loom hand weaving (lamalchil, batsilchil, sot venal) and hand embroidery.
The NGO ‘Impacto’ manages the collaboration, ensuring Tsotsil - Tseltal - Spanish translation throughout the creative and productive processes.
