The Art of Mending by Bronwen Jones.
“The art of mending is a workshop taught by artist Bronwen Jones. You will learn techniques to repair your beloved clothes while reflecting on the stories and memories contained within them.
Darning and patching are age-old techniques that have been used to repair and extend the life of clothes and textiles for many centuries. Bronwen practices these techniques visibly in order to celebrate the wear and thus the love we have for our cherished garments.
You will learn both darning and patching. Darning is a technique which can be used to repair knitted or woollen materials - like sweaters, socks, scarves, a woollen blanket. The patching technique is inspired by the Japanese Sashiko repair technique used to reinforce or repair holes in clothing; it can be practiced on woven fabrics, such as cotton, silk, linen or denim clothing or home textiles, it is worked with a patch and a series of running stitches. There will be scrap material to practice the techniques on but you’re also encouraged to bring your own damaged clothes to mend and Bronwen can give specific advice.
You are invited to slow down and learn techniques that you can easily continue to practice at home to preserve the life of your loved clothes and textiles.
No prior experience is required.
All materials will be provided and there will be scrap fabric to practice on. It is encouraged but not required for you to bring some damaged garments to work on.
The workshop will be between 3 - 4 hours.”
