Mary Evers - IRELAND

“Mary Evers channels her multicultural upbringing in the Mashriq region into "Threading Memory," a textile art project honouring Gaza genocide victims through the lens of traditional tatreez embroidery.

Following her long career as an Osteopath, Mary now dedicates herself to humanitarianactivism—a commitment rooted in her childhood among Palestinian refugee communities.

"Threading Memory" transforms embroidery into political expression, witheach stitchedname reclaiming the humanity of those lost. Using the Palestinian flag's colors—on a white cloth, red for women, black for men, green for children—the project creates a visual archive that rejects statistical anonymity.

"In a world where entire families have been erased, we ensure these stories don't fade into oblivion," Mary explains. "Each stitch becomes an act of remembrance and resistance."

In these times of chaos, our project serves an urgent purpose: building community when it's most needed. As social fabrics fray under violence and indifference, the ‘stitch their names together’ international sewing circle creates a sanctuary where grief is shared and isolation broken. This coming-together weaves not just threads but human bonds that sustain resistance in darkness.

Drawing on a tradition where Palestinian women have historically encoded their stories into fabric, this worldwide 200+ collective transforms a feminine craft into a weapon of truth. Each name honours both individual victims and Palestinian resilience.

Through this meditative practice, Mary and her collaborators continue their foremothers' work—using thread to document tragedy and forge community across borders. Their tapestry of memory stands as both tender memorial and fierce demand for justice from a silent world.”
