“MIA was born of the intention of expressing — through fashion— a way of life in tune with mother earth.
After graduating from Universidad Politécnica of Madrid María Azcárate, the designer, specialized in sustainable fashion and through that process came to take her first steps in the professional world through her practice with Kavita Parmar in her previous store at barrio Salamanca.
Later she started her own design brand in her home of Tenefife. Where, with her partner Emilio Vanrell and their project of ‘agroforestación’, they commit themselves to not only create sustainable clothing, but also promote a healthy and regenerative lifestyle for the island.
Through its pieces, MIA, conveys the unified message behind each step of its process. From the selection of fabrics, the designs, and timeless collections made with local artisans and businesses, to the composting of the waste in their own production, used in their reforestation project.
MIA and its team work tirelessly each and every day to create a model of production for their work that’s fit for the paradise they inhabit.
For this version of XTANT, María Azcárate will participate in conjuction with Patricia Uriarte a designer and embroiderer from the Canary Islands, to create a truly special and unique collection about the history and traditions of the archipelago.”
