Niamh O’Connell - IRELAND

Niamh O’Connell is a Textile Designer/Maker from Ireland whose work centres on using homegrown natural materials to create luxurious textiles. 

She works with the beautiful, crisp, white, rare heritage Galway Wool in her handmade woven and knitted designs, enhancing texture by combining with hand spun and other locally sourced yarns. In an effort to assist those currently restoring the cultural integrity of Native Irish Wool, she is delighted to use the bio-fibre from these pure bred sheep, supporting local farmers while also benefiting the wider community and the natural world. 

Niamh has a BA in Design and Visual Culture from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. She practises slow design, engaging in traditional techniques using locally sourced sustainable ethical materials, while calling attention to current environmental issues.
