Maria Garcia - COLOMBIA

Maria Garcia´s textile work contains the energy and medicine of colors extracted and prepared from plants, an amplified art in itself. It preserves the transitional role that was usually woven into primitive textiles: spun rectangular pieces, immemorial geometries and signs, dreamed of and revealed. A protective, revealing or amplifying character is installed in the fibers with codes and literature. The botanical dyes in which the textiles are bathed in sequences are integrated into figures that are constructed and integrated through a third magical or rugged element and materialize in the timeless printing process and textile development. The results are textile pieces with future and past, codes influenced by mystical notions and repeated symbologies, bathed in the polychrome blood of plants, bark and roots. Meetings and collaboration with master craftsmen who know highly sophisticated artistic techniques and the generosity and enchantment of plants have made this integration possible. María has worked with Batik, Wood block, Ikat and other primitive textile construction techniques, as well as in primitive earth and fire processes in ceramics in Bali and Java (Indonesia), rural Oaxaca (Mexico) and currently with a master of Mitú in Colombia.
