Clementina Calleri - ITALY
Clementina Calleri became a textile artisan in 2017, founding The Palmist, a project that comes from her devotion for artisanal practices, indigenous arts and the manufacturing techniques she has come to learn from her travels and the people she has worked with in Kenya, Yucatán Peninsula, New York City and Puglia.
Her journey started with upcycling shing nets, turning them into Narlai Sea Sacs which are an interpretation of the bilum bags from Papua New Guinea, used for carrying babies or utensils for shing.
Standing for environment-friendly products, Clementina believes small steps are milestones to changing the way we consume and paying attention to the products we choose. Collecting diferent vintage textiles, she created handmade pieces including mystical banners, decorative cushions and table setting linens promoting the use of cloth napkins, instead of unrecyclable paper napkins.
Since January 2023, newly based in Italy, Clementina drifted from making objects for the home to creating decorative art; having studied photojournalism in London, Clementina is a storyteller. She uses her embroideries to communicate hopeful messages, stories and lessons learned along the way.
