Falé - SENEGAL
“Founded In 2021 by Fatim Soumaré & Laurent Grisel, Falé, is a collective wherein several disciplines of craft connect, intersect and transmit, questioning and continuing artisanal practices. It is an ode to the ancestral traditions, indigenous fibers and know-how present in Senegal, aiming to reactivate and celebrate their collective memory.
End of 2020 Fatim fell in love with the tradition of hand-spinning rain-fed cotton, Falé and she wanted to shed light on this striking know-how which is on the verge of extinction by creating a Falé textile crafts collective with today 200 craftswomen spinners living in 5 island villages of the Sine Saloum, so that it would survive and continue to be passed on.
The next step was to set up a workshop in Djilor in Sine Saloum, a wide range of arts and crafts, including traditional weaving, hand embroidery and crochet, mingle and evolve to nourish our creativity
Ethically made in Senegal, we use only organic, rain-fed Senegalese cotton, and promote local arts and crafts to encourage their transmission. We magnify this hand-spun thread through textiles creations totally handmade
Each spool of thread is unique and reflects the heritage of the hand that forms it.”
