Gabriela Martinez Ortiz
Textile designer and artist, Gabriela Martinez, is the founder and creator of Ofelia & Antelmo, a project dedicated to the study of hand embroidery and its capabilities as a graphic art in various formats.
Inspired mainly by flora, her visual style is the result of an exploration of organic shapes through repeating patterns.
In her practice, Gabriela emphasises hand embroidery’s use as a visual art medium, whether it be in storytelling or accentuation, and applies it, beyond just textiles, in surfaces such as paper, palm, ceramics and dry nature.
Studying Textile and Fashion Design at the CENTRO de Diseño, Cine y Televisión university (2011-2015) in Mexico, her work has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs across Hong Kong, France, Chile, Colombia, England and South Africa.
