Daniel Harris
London Cloth Co, Created by Daniel Harris in late 2011 with one derelict, neglected, mid Welsh, 1920’s power loom and little to no experience. Stands today, with its mill housing over 70 tons of old textile machinery, put to work weaving fabrics for a significant list of fashion, film & interiors clients across the world.
The project fashions itself a “vertical mill” by Daniel’s own definition meaning ‘a weaving based theme park’ where all stages of the production process are conducted onsite.
The mill stresses low waste-low carbon operation through simple and innovative solutions. such as its home made 2000 litre worm farm or its adopted flock of over 400 Romney sheep in Kent,
Beyond that, the mill’s project expanded, near immediately, to the fields of education, history, transparency and traceability in the hopes of building a working mill that doubled as an educational facility for the process behind fabric making.
Since 2017, locally and globally, London cloth co. has been contracted by several mills and museums to undertake projects in design, repair, restoration, equipment training and site experience .
Daniel originally trained as a sewing machinist and pattern cutter so each year the mill cuts & sews a very limited number of garments made in their own fabrics, always designed specifically with the processes of weaving in mind.
