As a trained architect, Agnieszka Owsiany has been running a multidisciplinary practice in Poznań, Poland since 2018.
After working in architecture for several years, she felt a deep need to do something that wouldn't require a PC, a team of people and several months of conceptual work to achieve a result.
“I discovered this traditional technique of making rugs with hooking needles and, after months of self-teaching and experimenting with materials, I developed my own way of using this tool to create diverse textile objects. My mind is deeply rooted in nature, hence I create soft, organic forms that are intended to soothe whoever sees them, much the same way as surrounding oneself with nature does.”
Her most recent work has had her exploring the boundaries between textile and sculpture, resulting in a series of textile reliefs that play around with different surfaces and shadows.
“Due to the mentioned appreciation for nature, I've committed to only using true, unprocessed materials and entirely locally sourced materials from small manufacturers and producers.”
