Pol Taylor

Born in Troon in Scotland, Pol Taylor studied philosophy and psychology in oxford university before studying  architecture in Edinburgh, Barcelona, London and Glasgow. in 1995 he won the design competition for a christmas tree/18m performance tower for Glasgow, obtained his title as a British architect, and taught a design unit at Strathclyde university. In 1996 he moved to Valparaiso on the chilean pacific coast where he began teaching in the department of architecture of the Santa Maria Technical University, founding the arqze unit, designing and installing in 1999 the first blue ice polar station in the interior of Antarctica in collaboration with the Chilean Air Force. on the basis of this experience he has developed a singular approach to the design and commercialisation of deployable architectonic products such as the Bungydome. associated with the emergence of the chilean electronic music scene, he directed and produced a series of electronic actions involving installations, electronic music and projections in locations in Quintay, Santiago and Valparaiso, culminating in the MUTEK.CL_SYNTHETIC CITY festival in 2004, in which the integration of interdisciplinary design codes provokes a form of eventual architecture that opens and closes in time. He currently divides his time between developing and managing deployable amusement parks called BUBBLEPARC in Barcelona, Edinburgh, and Mallorca, and researching innovative applications for structural shell and membrane technologies through his TOR.SHELL project and on-going collaboration with the Chilean Air Force.
