Encarna Soler -SPAIN
Encarna Soler is a ceramicist specializing in Shino glaze and Raku style bowls. Raku (from Japanese: rakuyaki) is a technique of Korean origin, used to make unique pieces for the tea ceremony.
She has trained in Raku techniques with top international ceramists such as José Antonio Sarmiento, Jean Francois Dolorme and Ingrid Lilligren. In Denmark she has perfected the work of cooking salt, soda and anagram together with Gregory Miller, disciple of the living treasure Tatzuzo Shimaoka. She has also worked on the treatment of “chawan and cha-ire” (box where matcha tea is served in the tea ceremony) with master Minoru Suzuki in Japan.
Encarna teaches Chawan and Shino enamel in Denmark, Mexico, Korea, Belgium, at the Manises ceramics school at the “EA SC Manises Centenario” and at the Barcelona Industrial school in Spain.
In 2015 she received the gold medal for a Chawan with Shino enamel at the Munyeong Chasabel competition (South Korea). Her work has participated in various Chawan competitions; in the United States, Taiwan, Singapore, Belgium, Paris, Korea and at the Ceramics Museum in Barcelona, Spain.
Encarna will present a series of embroidered panels specially made for the tea ceremony.
