Katerina Knight - UK

Katerina Knight is an English textile artist specialising in one-of-a-kind textile artefacts. Handmade through reimagined processes of needle lace, natural dye and hand embroidery.

Initially training at the Glasgow School of Art and later working in the luxury fashion sector, Katerina felt an immense disconnect to an industry that oen disrespects both materials and makers. When returning to her studies in 2021, completing a masters in textiles at the Royal College of Art London, as a Burberry Design Scholar- it was her intent to realign her practice and self, with the natural rhythms of the Earth.

Connecting ecology with craft, Katerina invites dialogues of healing to be shared through slow textile making. Forming an intimate dialogue with the land, Katerina works with organic elements, homegrown on her allotment in Worcestershire, locally foraged and collected over time, to create precious yet ephemeral worksofart. Fromtheprocessofgrowing, throughtotheprocessofhanddyeingandstitching, eachactisa ritual and an immersive state of meditation.

“Connecting with the land in its purest form, feeling the soil beneath my fingertips, I found a way to regenerate my soul again, and discovered that true material beauty is rooted within our Earth .”

Alongside her artistic practice, Katerina is an academic, lecturing on BA Textiles at Hereford College of Art. Katerina is a published writer, contributing to publications such as; Embroidery Magazine and Selvedge Magazine, where she also works as an Editorial Assistant.
