Albeiro Camargo - COLOMBIA

Albeiro Camargo is a Colombian farmer and craftsman, born in Boyacá, a cold region where “ponchos” (traditional wool capes) are woven to protect people from the cold. Albeiro grew up on the countryside, taking care of the sheep and the farm. He has always been interested in cultivating his own food and materials and exchanging seeds and knowledge with the people that he comes across.

He has dedicated his life to learn from the elderly becoming a knowledge keeper  of different techniques, including the guane weave, currently endangered.

With his ability to weave, he designs and crafts different objects such as bags, hammocks, espadrils, hats and ponchos.

From farm to fashion, he grows his own materials, such as cotton and wool, harvesting, spinning and weaving his yarns. Through his crafts he  spreads the love and care for slow making with timeless pieces that show a unique approach to materials.

Today he is known across the town of Barichara, as a master weaver, a role model in the way he has chosen to educate his children, and as a preacher for the care of nature and traditional materials.
