[…] When not in Portugal, Alexandra’s second focus, of many, is as Co-Director of the Sacred Spirit Festival, a renowned annual event exploring the world’s (local) musical traditions, which is held in Nagaur and Jodhpur, India. Her work here, now spanning 13 editions, is in close collaborations with Alain Weber, the festival’s artistic director, a partnership in cultural heritage that has developed over more than 20 years and led to the organization and development of several other music and cultural festivals besides the Sacred Spirit, including Festival Évora Clássica, Festival Os Orientais, and Festival Évora Africa. […] In Mozambique her involvement with Portuguese NGO ‘APOIAR’, her work with Mozambique’s Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs, as well as for the Institute for Socio-Cultural Studies of Mozambique, and her role in the creation of the ‘hOUVE’ association, saw Alexandra recognize the power of culture in enablement: using arts, music and education as a catalyst to improving living and health standards in the communities in which she was involved.
She continued to work in Mozambique with Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Mozambique, and then as head of mission for the ‘Ordre de Malte France in Mozambique’. Developing projects from 2012 onwards, primarily within the National Plan against Leprosy and aid for health groups and health. Her remit included Mozambique’s last surgical missions for the National Plan against Leprosy in the Nampula Province, before safety issues in the region ended the missions. […]
[…] Besides the festivals she organized in the Palace, the list of major exhibitions is growing year by year, with recent iterations including: Évora Africa–Africa Passions, the largest exhibition of African contemporary art to be held in Portugal, accompanied with three months of musical programming; Love–Marrakech Opened My Eyes To Color-Yves Saint Laurent in honour of the Kingdom of Morocco, in partnership with Fondation Pierre Bergé–Yves Saint Laurent, held to re-open the Palace following extensive renovations, headed by Alexandra; Obrigado à Terraa large-scale contemporary ceramics exhibition involving 34 artists in Évora; The Scenery of Memory, showcasing the wonderful miniature world of artist Ronan-Jim Sévellec; and currently in development and due to open in May, Insiders/Outsiders? a fascinating bridge between the artistic worlds of Australia and Morocco, in partnership with the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum in Mallorca.”
