A native of Mallorca, Adriana Meunie studied fashion design in Barcelona, in BAU, Escola Superior de Diseny. She never felt totally comfortable with the fashion world and since an early age developed a real love for textiles. Her studio is in Campos (the South). “I feel like I’m a “Studio person”. I love to work, and it’s through “doing” that I learn and more things come up. For me, home and studio are esencial, I couldn’t function without them.”
Adriana works with tapestry techniques, bounded to the very primary sense of textiles creating wild textures, volumes and shapes. She is looking for a monstrous elegance.
Her signature is defined by the use of raw materials from the island of Mallorca; traditional symbols; ancient jobs connected to the land where shepherds take center stage. She wants to give value to old crafts.
Through her work Adriana wants to let the materials express themselves, to show their raw beautiful purity:wool, esparto, carritx, rafia (among others) in their primary form.
She likes to play with the contrast between Interior/ exterior: how to bring inside a space something that literally looks from the outside, like the vegetal fibers (looking like grass), or the wool (a clear reference to the animal); abstact Lanscapes: some pieces are ment to reacreate the sensation of a lanscape; clean /rawness.
