Jose and Sergio Martin are the brothers behind Caireles, an embroidery atelier specializing in the traditional dress from Salamanca. They are known for their courses and their deep commitment to passing this tradition to the next generation.
The motifs traditionally used in the embroidery from Salamanca are recognized as symbols of mountain identity. The entire fabric is filled with frets, borders and central motifs, in a vegetal ataurique in which a series of stylized animals are inserted between the tangled branches. The absence of the human figure and geometric motifs, the axis of symmetry of his compositions and the stitches"to the past" and "counted threads", are the basic characteristics that define and characterize mountain embroidery.
