Distilling the Mediterranean

Herbal spirits following family recipes is one of the ways to distill the Mediterranean essence. This experience is a hands-on  journey weaving herbs and alchemy.

Son Viscos is an old Mallorcan country house now converted into a cozy Bed & Breakfast with a true Mediterranean essence at the foot of the Sierra de Tramontana. The beautiful traditional garden will be the scenario for this experience.

Majorcan with a French mother, Deborah Piña has always been fascinated by the ethnographic and emotional component of the Mediterranean table. As a gastronomic communicator, her personal and professional purpose is to create unique experiences and activities, conveyed through food and traditions with the purpose of connecting with our culinary heritage and, above all, enjoying it.

Throughout the Mediterranean, spirits have been produced by macerating various herbs, spices and barks. Majorca is no exception. There is evidence of the artisanal and domestic production of alcoholic liquor from the 18th century. The Majorcan herbs are made with a base of anise liqueur with flavoring extracts from different plants. “We will prepare it in the most traditional way with herbs such as rosemary, mint, lemon leaves, lemon verbena and others less common in commercial preparations such as pine, bush, myrtle or fennel and all those that we can collect during our walk to capture the essence of Mallorca in a bottle.”
